Today is a big day for Be Car Chic as we celebrate five years of sharing automotive perspectives and influencing online conversation about our industry.
In 2009, I launched Be Car Chic out of my passion for the auto industry. Having worked at the dealership level in college, spent time advocating on behalf of car dealers and working with manufacturers as a communications consultant, (not to mention being a fan of cars most of my life) I feel permanently connected to this important sector of our economy and our personal lives.
This passion, coupled with integrity and a desire to be our best, has grown Be Car Chic each and every year, bringing with it opportunities to lead the discussion on the dangers of distracted driving, to address issues facing the industry with honesty, to highlight emerging female leaders, and to drive some pretty incredible cars along the way.
When writing that first blog post on November 13, 2009, I could have never anticipated the success and broad appeal that Be Car Chic would have.
What is Be Car Chic, you ask? What does it mean to be car chic?
As a woman in the auto industry who’s savvy about car sales and purchases, I want others to be knowledgeable, too. Being ‘car chic’ (that’s ‘chic’ said like ‘sheek’, not ‘chick’) means being prepared with quality information to make smart car choices. It means doing your due diligence to prepare before walking onto the dealer lot. It means understanding the multiple facets of issues that impact the industry – how they impact consumers, dealers, and manufacturers alike.
Who can be car chic?
Anyone! Be Car Chic was founded and initially only written by a woman (that’s me), but our writing style remains approachable to all audiences. Both women and men struggle with the sometimes intimidating car buying and selling process. They need commonsensical evaluations of cars that may be a good fit for them and everyday guidance that’s relatable.
Our readers want to know about a real person’s experience, not read how fast a wannabe race car driver went in a Toyota Corolla. We keep it real at Be Car Chic.
I hope that you’ll join us in celebrating this momentous occasion. We continue to grow and would love the opportunity to write about your vehicles. While our roots are in the nation’s capital, we have contributors across the country – and we hope to continue expanding our reach.
We also have some exciting changes coming up, including a total overhaul of our website. We will be redesigning it to ensure that readers and new visitors can access the information they want quickly and easily.
We may never be able to compete with the pageviews and quick-draw McGraw articles of the bigger auto blogs, but rest assured that we at Be Car Chic prioritize quality over quantity. We write thoughtful pieces from our first-hand experiences and expertise, leaving the news regurgitation and the SEO-worshipping to others.
I hope you’ll continue to visit us at becarchic.com, subscribe to our news feed for updates in your inbox, and communicate with us on Twitter @BeCarChic. We love hearing from you.
Finally, as a milestone such as this warrants, we encourage your feedback to improve what we do. If you have suggestions to make Be Car Chic better serve you, please email me and let’s have a discussion.
Thanks for your support over the last five years! We couldn’t have come this far without you.
