Infographics have really taken off in popularity over the last few years. The word is short for information graphics, which serve to condense a lot of information into an image or series of images that convey a specific message.

We recently caught wind of this insightful infographic from the folks at shopautoweek.com and just had to share it with you. Check out the most fuel-efficient cars and trucks of 2012. The list is broken down by vehicle segment – from two-seaters to SUVs. Do any on the list surprise you?

    Sorry but the infographic is mis-titled; it should read, “Most fuel-efficient cars and trucks of 2012 IN THE US”. Carmakers still reserve their best tech and their highest-mpg vehicles for the much more demanding European market. They do like to throw us their expensive EVs (the ones that have just slightly lower CO2 emissions than their gasoline counterparts). Pretty feel-good green trees on this graphic, though….

      Thanks, CelloMom. You make a good point about the fuel-sipping options on a global perspective versus what’s sold here in the U.S. The infographic was produced by a US-based company so that explains the title.
