Anew report by AAA showed that 6 out of 10 teen driver crashes were caused by distraction–a figure larger than what has previously been estimated by police reports and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Nearly 7,000 video recordings of teenage drivers between 2009 and 2013 showed events leading up to a moderate-to-sever crash. This brief infographic details that the number-one distraction for teen drivers is having other teens in the car with them. The second highest cause is looking down at their phone, as can clearly be seen in this video from AAA.
