2014 AAA Holiday Travel Forecast | 98.6 million Americans to hit the roads

Low gas prices and more disposable income are expected to lead to record high numbers of Americans traveling to visit family and friends this holiday season (established by AAA as Tuesday, December 23 through January 4).

AAA has released its Year-End Travel Forecast, and if you’re planning to drive to see grandma this week, you’ll likely be joined on the roads by 98 million of your closest friends.

AAA Holiday Travel Highlights:

  • AAA predicts 98.6 million Americans will travel this week
  • That’s the highest peak recorded by AAA (data tracked since 2001)
  • 91% of those traveling will get to grandma’s house by automobile
  • 5.7 million Americans will go by plane to their holiday destinations
