After a six-week campaign and more than 1.8 million votes, the public has chosen to pluralize the Prius by calling two or more of Toyota’s hybrid vehicles “Prii.”
This version of the word earned 25 percent of the vote, shutting out other variations like Prium, Priuses, Prien, and Prius. Toyota made the announcement earlier today at the conclusion of the 2011 Chicago Auto Show.
While the campaign may have been short, the debate has lasted since the original Prius arrived on the scene 10 years ago. Now, Toyota has introduced to the marketplace an entire family of Prius vehicles, er Prii. (That’s going to be difficult to get use to saying.)
The full line will soon include the Prius plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHV), and the Prius v and c concepts. These hybrid additions will adhere to the Prius mantra of good fuel economy, low emissions, and proven gas-electric technologies.
Well, that’s a wrap on the plural of Prius campaign. Thanks for following along with Be Car Chic and for helping Toyota make this decision by voting.
